Devotional #4-Day 1: The Assignment Was Supposed to Be Simple

Opening Stillness

Before you begin, pause. Take a slow breath and let your body settle. Release the pressure to understand everything right now. You don’t need answers yet. You only need honesty. Invite God into this moment and trust that He meets you right where you are.

Reflection

Company picnics come with low expectations. Show up, smile politely, eat whatever’s on the grill, and leave with a Styrofoam plate of leftovers. That’s the whole assignment. But somehow, what should have been simple turned into chaos when my two youngest daughters joined me.

Life often works the same way. We enter seasons expecting ease, only to find ourselves facing more than we planned for. A move. A change. A responsibility we didn’t anticipate. Suddenly, what felt manageable feels overwhelming.

God does not disappear when life veers off script. He meets us right there, in the unexpected.

Scripture

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 34:18 (ESV)

Soul Question

Where has your life felt more complicated than you expected?

Prayer

Lord, meet me in the unexpected turns of my life. Help me trust You when things feel harder than planned. Amen
